After seeing the Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit’s all over my Instagram feed, it was only a matter of time before I caved and bought one for myself. Luckily for my bank account though, I’d struggled to find any in stock. (That was with checking both near work and home!). So when I went to pick up a new powder in Superdrug last week and spied one of the lip kits on the stand I knew I’d have to treat myself and buy it. Especially as it was the last one left!
As someone who wears liquid lipstick almost every day, I thought I’d share my thoughts on how it stacked up…
Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in Runway
Recently, alongside their Matte Me Up liquid lipstick range Barry M launched three limited edition Lip Kits. Much like the infamous Kylie Comsetics Lip Kits, inside Barry M’s you’ll find a matching liquid lipstick and liner. All of the range are super wearable colours; Runway is a gorgeous rosy pink, Pose looks to be a more soft pink and Go To seems like a wearable nude. So a great addition to anyone’s collection.
But the most important question is, how did the formula stack up? I used to swear by Barry M lip liners as a teen. In fact I’m not really sure, other than out of hoarding MAC liners that I stopped buying them. Anyway, I’m glad to say the formula on this one is even better than I remembered. It’s smooth, doesn’t drag and I’ve found no colour bleed. All in all it just feels rather lovely to apply. (Plus the chic design reminds me more of a MAC lip liner than something that could be picked up on the high street – always a bonus!).
When it comes to the lipstick itself, comparing the liquid to matte formula to come of my more high end favourites the lasting power comes a little short. But, at around a third of the price, is that really a shock? It still it long wearing without being chalky or overly drying and will last through some eating and drinking without much wear and tear (more oily products aside). The only down side is you may need to pop it in your bag if you’re heading out after work as 8 hours in, you’ll likely see fading. That aside, they really do work fantastically together and the colours match up perfectly. Plus they’re a complete bargain. I’m starting to see now why they’re always out of stock…
All in all, although with my very pretty similar DIY Candy K dupe lip kit from ColourPop and a vast collection of rose pink lipsticks, I probably didn’t need to add Runway to my collection, I don’t regret buying it at all. At £6.99, I recommend popping one in your basket next time you’re in Superdrug or Boots. For such a reasonable price tag, the quality is fantastic. I know for sure I’m keeping an eye out for Pose and Go To!
