Although I am a huge beauty addict, one concept I fell out of love with in 2016 was beauty subscription boxes. One too many times I found out of the five or so products in the box, only one or two I’d really enjoy or think to repurchase. Since cancelling my subscriptions to Cohorted and Glossybox, I’ve been tempted many a time to resubscribe when I’ve seen posts on some fantastic goodies. But in the end, the nagging feeling I’ll end up with something that won’t work with my sensitive skin.
However, I’ve recently discovered two very cool beauty box concepts I can really get behind. The first being Latest in Beauty and the second being Love Me Beauty (& you’ll see them both featured in the coming weeks!). They both have similar, but distinct concepts. They curate an edit for the month but you get to choose your own products. Perfect.
Love Me Beauty, ft Kat Von D Beauty
Back when it was announced that Kat Von D Beauty would be coming to Debenhams, they also partnered with Love Me Beauty. (After all, I learnt after watching Love Me Beauty co-founder Oliver on Dragons Den a few weeks ago, they now have a partnership with Debenhams Beauty!) The first products offered I snapped up straight away. If I remember correctly it was a mini Studded Kiss Lipstick in Magick, mini Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw and Mini Ink Liner. I didn’t end up blogging my thoughts. But if you read my week in lipsticks you’ll know that Magick is a firm favourite for in the week. It was possibly one of my favourite subscription boxes I’d ever received.
So when I saw that a new range of Kat Von D goodies were on the Love Me Beauty edit for February. Well, I just had to make another order. This time, I picked up mini versions of;
- Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw (the original I gave to a friend who loved the colour).
- Studded Kiss Lipstick in Mercy.
- Studded Kiss Lipstick in Underage Red.
- Lock It Concealer in shade 3.
- & some Charlotte Tilbury lipstick samples for good measure.
My thoughts on the products
So far I’ve been loving the Lock It Concealer and I’m considering picking up full size when this runs out.
On to the lipsticks; Outlaw and Underage Red are classic reds which are always welcome in my collection. The mini Kat Von D lipsticks are the perfect size for trailing the colours, in particular Mercy. As it’s such an unusual colour for me I would never normally have picked up such a dark plum shade. Does it suit me? Well I’m not too sure on that one.. Am I glad I could give it a shot through Love Me Beauty? Well of course!
While we’re still talking lipstick, the most strange part of the delivery for me and one I’m not sure I’m on board with is the Charlotte Tilbury samples. Essentially, they’re a one use press on sheet of lipstick. I don’t think you can really get the feel for the formula from it. To be honest, if I wasn’t already a fan of Charlotte Tilbury I’m not sure they’d convince me enough to buy full size. However, as I know the formula is fantastic it was a great way to try 3 new to me colours.
